Am Fm Unit Install | Icom Ui7
Note: The following steps are generally applicable to the Icom IC-725/728/735 series, but always consult your specific radio’s service manual for exact screw locations. Step 1: Open the Transceiver
on the front panel. This connection is vital for the front panel "AM/FM" button to communicate with the new unit. 4. Reassembly and Testing
Inside or adjacent to this outline, locate the two factory-installed jumper wires or zero-ohm resistors labeled (on some board revisions, these may be marked as quick-disconnect jumpers). Step 3: Removing the Jumpers icom ui7 am fm unit install

Place the transceiver flat on your workspace with the top cover facing up.
The UI7 has two output options:
If no NMEA 2000® network exists, you can create a minimal backbone using a 12V power insertion cable and two terminators. However, the UI‑7 will still need the NMEA connection to receive power—even if no other sensors are present.
This is the most critical step. A poor power connection will result in noise, interference, and potential damage to the radio. Without this board, you can only operate in SSB and CW
⚠️ The UI-7 is not required for the Icom IC-729. The IC-729 came from the factory with these modes already integrated internally. For other Icom models, you can inspect the board layout or consult your transceiver's service manual to confirm the presence of connectors J20, J21, and J22 on the main unit.
Without this unit, some Icom models may only support AM reception or only SSB/CW modes. Installing this unit often also requires the optional UT-20 programmable tone encoder to work with FM repeaters. 2. Preparation and Tools
