When uploading multiple files, if a file with a leading dot causes the upload to stop, you have a couple of options. You can either temporarily rename the dot-prefixed files to remove the leading dot before uploading, or if the software allows it, configure it to ignore dot files. However, fixing this issue often requires a patch or update from the software developer, as it is a known bug in some file managers.
The most effective way to restore a folder masked as a file is through the Windows Command Prompt using the attrib command. This forces Windows to strip away corrupt file attributes and re-index the directory. Run the following command to rename the folder
| Step | Action | |------|--------| | 1 | – Resume the download if possible. | | 2 | Clear cache – Remove cached images and files from your browser. | | 3 | Use incognito mode – Disable extensions and retry. | | 4 | Try a different browser – Sometimes another browser works. | | 5 | Rename .crdownload to .zip – Only if the file size matches. | | 6 | Use a download manager – For reliable resuming of large files. | | 7 | Check FileDOT server status – The problem may be on their end. |
For example, if you attempt to upload files named a.txt , b.txt , .filedotted , and c.txt , the upload process will stop when it reaches .filedotted . Consequently, c.txt and any subsequent files will fail to upload. This can happen when uploading individual files or entire folders containing a dot-prefixed file. However, fixing this issue often requires a patch
| Cause | Explanation | |-------|-------------| | ❌ | Even a brief drop in connectivity can corrupt the download. | | 💾 Insufficient disk space | Chrome needs room to save the temporary .crdownload file before renaming it. | | 🔌 Computer sleep mode | If your PC goes to sleep during the download, the connection may be lost. | | 🧪 Browser extensions | Ad‑blockers or VPN extensions can interfere with the download process. | | 🗑️ Corrupted browser cache | An overloaded or corrupted cache can cause downloads to stall. | | 🔐 Server‑side issues | The FileDOT server may be temporarily overloaded or unstable. |
