: Immediately after the Engine ID pulse, the engine RPM may fluctuate. If your vehicle requires a dynamic response test, briefly press the accelerator pedal to the floor and release it once to allow the computer to test the Throttle Position (TPS) and Mass Airflow (MAF) sensors.
Engage the parking brake and place the transmission in (Automatic) or Neutral (Manual). Turn off all vehicle accessories (radio, AC, lights). Step 2: Connecting the Tester
: Alternator is undercharging, which will eventually drain your battery. Check the alternator belt or replace the alternator.
: Regularly check the coiled cord for frays or cracks that could lead to inaccurate readings or short circuits.
“The needle pegs hard when testing volts.” Solution (from manual, p. 4): You may have the knob on “Dwell” instead of “Volts.” This sends the wrong internal resistance. Turn off engine immediately.
The tester will briefly display a number representing half the number of engine cylinders (e.g., 2 for a 4-cylinder, 3 for a 6-cylinder, 4 for an 8-cylinder).
